As a pet owner, I know firsthand that pet supplies and tasteful interior design don’t always, well, go together…
Take for example the litter box. Sure, our feline friends need them — but they’re not exactly a pleasant thing to have around the house. Same goes for yucky crates and messy dishes.
Yet, thanks to some very crafty folks out there, icky pet care products can sometimes double as beautiful decor and useful furniture! Examples of this include a beautiful dresser that disguises a litter box and food and laundry rooms that fulfill all of a dog’s needs.
This project, by Imgur user sliphur, is one of these gorgeous feats. When she needed to cut down a tree in her yard that was preventing others from growing, she decided to use this landscaping debris to make something her pets that would love to use — and she would love to look at!
And I have to admit, looking at these gorgeous photos, she definitely accomplished that goal!
This is the tree she started with. After she chopped down the tree, she trimmed the branches and plucked the leaves. She also got some “strange looks from neighbors, wondering why I was cutting down a tree... then awkwardly dragging it into my back yard.”
Now she had to think about her limb selection. She wanted the branches to resemble “a spiral staircase.”
“Finally an excuse to use my circle jig!” she wrote. “I doubled up two circles for the base to give it more weight and stability.”
Then she glued and screwed everything together and attached the base with some lag screws.
Once it was assembled, she did a final trim of the branches.
Next she created and cut out shelf templates.
Then she traced the templates onto the maple plywood, and she went “off to work with the jigsaw.”
Once she was done, she had a variety of cool-looking shelves.
Then she counter-sank some lag bolts to attach the shelves to the top of each branch.
Next she added carpet to each shelf.
Then she varnished the bottom of each.
Finally, she wrapped some rope around a few of the branches.
And — viola! — she has a beautiful cat tree that’s made out of an actual tree.
The kitties are intrigued.
And they approve of their new toy!
The project marries the best of both worlds.
It is fun playground for pets that is also an attractive piece of furniture.
